Kauai has plenty of hidden gems you just need to see yourself. While it may be no secret that there are beautiful beaches across Hawaii, we have uncovered five of the best secret beaches in Kauai.

Top 5 best secret beaches in Kauai.

Kauai, known as The Garden Island, is the oldest of the majestic Hawaiian Islands and is a popular destination for holidaymakers from all over the globe.

Visitors to the island are attracted by the natural beauty, calm waters, golden sand beaches and rugged cliffs, which feature many hiking trails and viewpoints. A lot of these beaches are well-known, but did you know that there are plenty of hidden gems on the island too?

Kauai is home to some of the best secret beaches, which allow you to escape the crowds, soak up the sun and enjoy the tranquillity of the island. If this sounds like bliss, stick around for our list of the best ones to visit.

Here are our top recommendations for the best secret beaches in Kauai.

    5. Hideaways Beach, Princeville – the best snorkelling spot in Kauai

Most of the best beaches on the island are only accessible by hiking, and that is certainly the case for Hideaways Beach. Parking spaces are available but limited, and the hike is a little tricky but it’s well worth it when you take your time.

The hike leads to one of the best secret beaches in Kauai. This is the best snorkelling spot on the island, so bring your gear and enjoy the experience.

On top of snorkelling, you can enjoy bathing in the ultra-clear water, relaxing on the long sliver of sand and taking in the views of the lush greenery surrounding you, all of which make this a dream beach to add to your Hawaii Itinerary.

    4. Gillins Beach, Poipu – a stunning beach on the South Shore

If a deserted, sand dune-backed beach is what you seek, then a visit to Gillins Beach is a must. This has to be one of the best secret beaches on Kauai.

Located on the south of the island, this beach is accessed by a dirt road, but it is worth the effort if you have a sturdy vehicle. There are parking spaces just before the narrow path that leads to the beach.

The South Shore beaches are less popular than those of the North Shore, making them even more secluded. This is one of the most romantic spots you will find in the world – once you make it down the dirt driveway, of course!

    Address: Hawaii 96756, United States

    3. Kalalau Beach, Na Pali Coast – a remote and rugged beach

The picture-perfect Kalalau is one of the best secret beaches in Kauai. It, too, requires a little adventure to get there: taking on the famous Kalalau Trail.

This trail – a must-do when on the island – will eventually lead you to this stunning stretch of beach, one of the most unique places in Kaui.

With an incredible backdrop of the Na Pali cliffs and a perfectly cascading waterfall, you will not deny that this stunning hike was well worth the effort.

    Address: Hawaii 96746, United States

    2. Kalihiwai Beach, North Shore – a secluded bay on the North Shore

This stunning, secluded bay is a gem to discover on the North Shore of Kauai. Here you can enjoy the backdrop of the rainforest, explore the river by paddle board or kayak, or soak up the sun from the sand.

Located near Kilauea town and the eponymous volcano and lighthouse, there is plenty to do near Kalihiwai Beach.

Secret Beach, also known as Kaupea Beach, is most definitely a place you cannot miss out on when visiting the island of Kauai. Its mysterious name owes to the lack of signs leading the way, so finding this place can be tricky. But it is definitely worth the effort.

You should bear in mind that, due to its seclusion, this is a popular spot with nude bathers. In general, though, there are few people here, so tranquillity can be found.

The ocean is rarely swimmable due to rough currents, but the beautiful sands and nearby tidal pools make this one of the best secret beaches in Kauai.

    Notable mentions

Anini Beach is ideal for snorkelling.

Anini Beach: One of the safer beaches on Kauai, ideal for snorkelling, swimming and relaxing.

Tunnels Beach: Features shallow coral reefs, which makes it an ideal snorkelling spot on the North Shore.

Kalapaki Beach: A romantic spot with golden sand and calm waters for safe swimming.

Shipwreck Beach: An excellent spot for experienced surfers, accessed via a hiking trail and a picture-perfect spot for sunset lovers.

Poipu Beach: A safe, kid-friendly beach that is perfect for relaxing, swimming, picnicking, and snorkelling due to the protected waters.
