    Travelling the world is often on people’s bucket lists, but something of that magnitude is difficult to align with the plans of another, especially as we get older! So sometimes we have to do it alone.

    Fear not. This is a path taken by many solitary explorers before. Across all seven continents of the globe, there is the opportunity to discover the wonders of the world alone.

    Kicking off our list is Denmark. The Scandinavian nation is fantastic for a solo city break and for a cycle across the metropolis of Copenhagen.

    Denmark recently ranked as the fourth safest country in the world, so this should ease any fears. While it can be pricey, this laid-back and modern atmosphere is worth it.

    9. Spain – excellent public transport from city to city

    Spain consistently ranks as one of the best countries in the world for solo travel. Spain has excellent bus and rail lines to take you from Madrid to Barcelona, to Seville and more.

    The weather in Spain is consistently warm, and while the principal language is Spanish, most people will have a basic level of English.

    8. Portugal – 800 km (497 miles) of coastline to explore

    Neighbour to Spain, Portugal is also great for solo travel. Lisbon and Porto are beautiful cities along the Iberian peninsula, which can easily be traversed alone.

    Portugal has 800 km (497 miles) of coastline for you to see and soak the sun. It ranked sixth in the world for safety this year.

    7. Costa Rica – see South America solo

    The best time to visit is between December and April to catch the best weather. Costa Ricans are famously very friendly and welcoming, aiding solo travel.

    It is an affordable country to visit, with excellent tourism infrastructure and can act as a base for the rest of your Latin American travels.

    6. Indonesia – a modern choice

    Indonesia is fast becoming a favourite place for people to visit, so it earns a spot on our list of the safest countries in the world for solo travel.

    Indonesia is a great spot for remote working and is considered safe for travel. It is also an affordable place to visit.

    5. Ireland – one of the best countries in the world for solo travel

    Ireland is now regarded by the Global Peace Index as the third safest country in the world. Public transport can take you between cities, and the people are very welcoming.

    Dublin and Belfast are must-visits, but away from the concrete cities, see the Cliffs of Moher, Errigal Mountain, or Glendalough.

    4. Canada – vast landscape for solo explorers

    Fourth on our list of the safest countries in the world for solo travel is Canada. It is a very kind and hospitable country, with several incredible cities to visit, such as Toronto or Vancouver.

    Aside from this, the solo explorer will have the Rockies, Niagara Falls and Banff National Park to explore. Bring a camera! You won’t regret it.

    Back to Europe, and we have the Netherlands. The Dutch speak excellent English, so communication shouldn’t be a problem.

    Dutch cities are bike and people-friendly, so go for a cycle along the canals of Amsterdam or avail of excellent public transport and see more of the country.

    2. New Zealand – ideal destination for solo travellers

    The penultimate choice on our list of the best countries in the world for solo travel is New Zealand. It isn’t hard to get around New Zealand, and communication won’t be a problem.

    New Zealand is very friendly and extremely scenic. There are so many fun activities, such as zip lining, hiking and skydiving. You will have plenty of stories to tell after your solo travel.

    1. Japan – a very peaceful country

    Topping our list of the safest countries in the world for solo travel is Japan. Ranked as the tenth safest country in the world, you will feel at ease here.

    Japan has extremely peaceful and clean cities with a great train network. Tokyo and Kyoto are but a few of the best spots to visit. Eating alone is even celebrated in Japan! What are you waiting for?
