Switzerland was found to be the safest country in Europe according to a new study.

Switzerland ranked the safest country in Europe.

According to a new study, people who call Switzerland their home will be delighted to discover that it is regarded as being the safest country in Europe to live in.

Nordic and Scandinavian countries ranked well in the study, as Iceland, Norway, and Denmark were all in the top five.

The study by the website Gamblino.com analysed nine different metrics contributing to how safe an area was to live in.

Some of these metrics were the number of homicides, road fatalities, assaults, natural disaster risk and the countries’ score on the global peace index.

Each country was then given a score out of a possible ten for each factor. This score was then totalled to provide a final score on the safety index. The lower the score a country had, the safer it is.

Thanks to its very low level of homicide, assault and road fatalities, Switzerland – known for its natural beauty and incredible cities – emerges as the safest country in Europe.

Switzerland also has a very low risk of natural disasters, and one of the lowest levels of corruption perception helped cement its position as the safest place in Europe.

Switzerland earned an impressive score of 45 on the safety index. Besides being such a safe country to visit, its mesmerising ski slopes and stunningly scenic hiking trails make it a no-brainer to visit for those wishing to see what a great European country has to offer.

Iceland and Norway – make up the top three safest countries in Europe

In second place on the list of the safest countries in Europe was Iceland. Iceland has a safety index score of 47.4.

The Nordic volcanic island regularly attracts tourists thanks to its dramatic landscapes, majestic glaciers, stunning waterfalls. Plus, the phenomenon of the northern lights.

Besides being a visually beautiful country, visitors will delight in finding out that it ranks as the second safest country in Europe. This is thanks to its very low number of robberies and homicides, making it one of the most peaceful nations on the list.

The Scandinavian country of Norway followed closely behind Iceland in third place with a safety index score of 47.9.

Similarly to Iceland, Norway, another beautiful country best known for its glaciers, mountains and deep coastal fjords, ranked as a very peaceful nation. Norway has a low rate of robberies, homicide and traffic accidents, making it another one of the safest countries in Europe to live in or visit.
