Scotland has opened the first rewilding centre in the world, allowing nature to thrive and paving the way for other regions to follow suit. So, what can you expect?

Scotland opens the world's first-ever rewilding centre.

Dundreggan Rewilding Centre, which opened its doors just last week, is a brand-new rewilding facility located in the highlands of Scotland, aimed to promote the already successful Trees For Life rewilding project in the Caledonian Forest.

The new interactive visitors’ centre will be the first of its kind near the famous Loch Ness. It will serve to educate people about the nature around them while conserving and restoring the Caledonian Forest and allowing wildlife and plant species to thrive.

Nature lovers will have a massive smile on their faces now that the new Dundreggan Rewilding Centre has opened in the Scottish Highlands, a move that has sparked hope in all of us who appreciate the nature and wildlife around us.

The incredibly designed centre has many fantastic features that will allow visitors to attend events, take part in guided walking tours, and learn about the region’s Gaelic heritage and the unique species of animals, plants, and trees.

Steve Micklewright, Trees For Life executive, stated, “For 15 years, Dundreggan has been a beacon for rewilding our landscapes – now it will be a beacon for rewilding people too”.

The centre aims to provide visitors with a fantastic interactive experience that will instil hope and pass on information to help us understand the vital role of nature and wildlife.

In addition, it will help boost economic opportunities and combat climate change and natural emergencies, which is fantastic news.

Rewilding, which is a form of conservation and ecological restoration, is a move that aims to improve our entire ecosystem, which in turn allows nature to return to its natural cycle.

For example, Trees For Life, an organisation dedicated to protecting nature, envisions the Caledonian Forest in the Scottish Highlands to be rich with wildlife and abundant with plants and trees found nowhere else in Britain.

Visitors to the new facility, the world’s first rewilding centre, will experience rewilding in action by undertaking immersive rewilding walks and learning about the 100,000 trees they grow each year to bring this vision to life.

There is a café on site, which uses reclaimed wooden furniture. Furthermore, the building has plenty of sustainable features to look out for, including plenty of solar panels. This is yet another reason that Scotland is a great place for sustainable travel.

One of the main aspects of the rewilding centre is to show that we are all a part of this, and everyone can get involved. Here are some essential details for your visit to the brand-new rewilding centre.

The rewilding centre opens 9:30 am-4:30 pm every day. Entry is free, and its footpaths are open all year round.

Nursery tours and rewilding guided tours are available Tuesday-Sunday and should be booked in advance. Dogs are welcome but must be kept on a lead. Walk durations vary between 30 minutes and two hours, while difficulty levels range from easy to strenuous.

For those who wish to stay in the region to explore more, An Spiris is their brand-new accommodation, which can be booked here.
